 Student Bluegrass Ensemble Classes

Intermediate Bluegrass Ensemble

This class is designed for Bluegrass students who are getting more comfortable with taking "breaks" and playing rhythm at moderate tempos. These classes will cover more material than the beginner ensembles, in the same amount of time. There will be focus on kick-offs/endings, what role your instrument plays in the group (rhythm and lead), encouragement to learn melodies by ear, potentially taking improvised breaks, and much more. All of these elements will be catered to your comfort level.

Prior to the start of class a few fiddle tunes will be picked by the instructor so that you can start practicing before class starts. Each student will have the opportunity to pick a song that they would like to play with the class. Those songs will be learned, and performed by the whole group. After the last class meeting the group will play in public at a Boulder location. If you are looking to learn the secret hand shakes of bluegrass that aren't explained at the jams, then this class will take that mystery away and make you a more competent and informed player. By the way, it's a lot of fun too.
